responsible for Ciba Crop Protection Distributed Systems Management
and Electronic Mail Environment. Provided systems support on a large
Local Area VAXcluster which included VAX 6610s, an 8700, 4000 series
systems, VAXstation 3100's and Alpha AXPs. Manager of the ALL-IN-1
Office Automation system and the site connection to the
corporation's international MAILbus (CibaMail). Network
administrator of the Crop Protection PC LAN servers, serving over
900 PC systems. Responsible for initial installation, configuration,
and support of remote OpenVMS systems including the Central Regional
Office in Chicago, IL, the Vero Beach Research Center in Vero Beach,
FL, the Northeastern Office in northeast New York and the Southern
Regional Office in Charlotte, NC. Responsible for installation
and maintenance of DECwindows/Motif (Xwindow) based applications.
Involved with network planning and integration of remote systems as
well as PCs at remote sites. Digital PATHWORKS PC network management
responsibilities include some Apple Macintosh integration.
Responsible for PATHWORKS server side management and systems
development of the WiSE (Windows Server Environment) systems.
Responsible for a project that converted from PATHWORKS to Windows
NT Server and Windows for Workgroups client via TCP/IP for the WiSE
network. Developed Microsoft Windows system and network
applications for the WiSE environment. Specified, installed
and responsible for PC based Microsoft Mail integration with the
corporate network via a Microsoft X.400 Gateway with connectivity to
a MAILbus 400 Gateway in Basel. Main Crop Protection MS-Mail
support provider for Greensboro, McIntosh and St. Gabriel.
Tested and recommended systems and software for use in Crop
Protection, including Microsoft Windows NT systems software.
Crop Protection Windows NT system and network administrator.
Team Leader of a team designated to identify a license
management tool for the PC LAN systems. Team Leader of a team formed
to troubleshoot the PC Network. Experience with Digital
Alpha/AXP integration on varied servers. Trained on, and provided
backup support for, OSF/1 (Digital UNIX) systems running on Digital
Alpha AXPs. Experience with Digital's Novell NetWare
Co-existence package to connect PATHWORKS with Novell NetWare
Networks.

Was responsible for installation and maintenance of the
OpenVMS operating system, and other Digital and third party
software, on a four node, mixed, heterogeneous VAXcluster.
Tuned systems for maximum performance. Provided VAX and PC
consulting to University staff, Computer Center professionals, and
satellite University groups. Supervised one full time systems
programmer. Data communications management included both
baseband DECnet and planning for a campus-wide broadband network.
Specified, installed hardware and software, trained users and
managed Digital's ALL-IN-1 Office Automation, MAILbus and Electronic
Mail system. Promoted the Computer Center through newsletter
articles, formal presentations to the Chancellor and Vice
Chancellors, coordination of A&T's first Computer Fair, and
workshops. Evaluated new technology and recommended hardware and
software. Recommended, installed, and managed the Computer
Center's connection to the BITNET (Internet) international computer
network. Worked with vendors and service representatives on
price quotes and trouble shooting. Database design, development, and
implementation using the SmartStar 4GL system for Computer Center
needs. Prepared the System Disaster Plan and System Operations
Manual. Integrated Apple Macintoshes into the network. Some UNIX
support as required.

Assisted the System Manager by setting up VMS usernames
and ALL-IN-1 User Profiles. Managed ALL-IN-1 and the MAILbus.
System Manager of a MicroVAX II running ULTRIX-32 (UNIX), used
for a Basel X.25 connection, which was later converted to VMS.
Data communications work, including installing a DECnet spine
extension, maintaining the DECnet to MetaPath connections, and
installing peripherals on the network. Provided data
communications trouble shooting to on-site personnel, as well as
regional offices, and field representatives. This included phone
support and off-site travel. Developed a captive dial-in system
using ProComm. Installed and configured a Logicraft 386ware server to
allow access to MS-DOS applications for Digital terminals.
Worked with vendors and service representatives on quotes and
trouble shooting. Performed daily, weekly and monthly backups.
Maintained and revised a DCL menu system which allowed users to
access applications in a manner consistent with ALL-IN-1. Designed,
developed and implemented a front end to SAS/Graph to allow end users
with no knowledge of SAS syntax to create text slides. Wrote a
device driver for the LCP01 color printer for use with SAS/Graph.
Customized Digital's TPU editor to use the WPS-Plus keypad.
Developed a SQL*Forms hardware database. Served as ORACLE Data
Base Administrator. Provided technical support to applications staff
on VMS, 386ware, moving systems into production, and granting users
access rights. Supported the Library staff on the BiblioTech
Library System. Consulted with users in the use of applications
packages. Supervised a summer student working as a programmer.
Evaluated and recommended hardware and software. Assisted
in arranging the on-site VAX conference.
