About Dr. Bill Bailey

Dr. Bill Bailey jokingly refers to himself as a "Renaissance Man!" His background and experience has uniquely qualified him for participation in the World Wide Web revolution. From his twenty-seven (plus) years experience in Computers and Information Sciences to his diverse background in art, photography, publishing, and music, Dr. Bill has been developing experience that enhances his current endeavors. Dr. Bailey has been an artist, photographer, small business owner as well as a corporate information systems consultant, working for Novartis (formerly Ciba-Geigy) for ten years.  He currently serves as the Citrix and VMware System Administrator at High Point Regional Health Systems.

He has also served as Enterprise System Manager for the Center for Creative Leadership, as well as doing private computer consulting.   He currently works as an Open Source, Microsoft, and Citrix System Engineer and has clients throughout the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina. For more of his thoughts and views, check out his Computer Blog and his Natural Health Blog. During his early college days at UNCG he earned a BFA in Studio Art (with a concentration in Painting, Printmaking and Photography.)  After his undergraduate studies were completed, he began work on a Masters in Electronic Media Communications. He then worked in the TV and radio broadcasting industry, which led to his employment by an international satellite network in Dallas, TX. Dr. Bailey later earned a Ph.D. in Theology from Life Christian University and Seminary and is now very active as a leader and Helps Minister in his local church, Faith & Victory Church of Greensboro, NC.  He has also gone on to earn an N.D. degree (Doctor of Naturopathy) from the Trinity College of Natural Health.  He is now a Certified Traditional Naturopath.  Dr. Bailey is also a Certified Natural Health Professional and a Professional Member of the American Association of Nutritional Consultants.  He is a Board Member of the Citizens for Healthcare Freedom, and the North Carolina Chapter of the Certified Natural Health Professionals.  He was founder (with his lovely wife, Belinda) in 1999, of the on-line store, the Low Carb Nexus® which they have since sold (in 2004) to A&S Natural Health, Inc.

His diverse computing background includes experience in Computer System Management, Web Design and Management, Electronic Messaging, Data Communications, Networking and Artificial Intelligence. In the "early days," he managed Digital VAX/VMS computer systems for Novartis' Research and Development Computer Systems Group. He was an original beta team member for the initial Windows NT release, and was subsequently a participant in the Microsoft Beta Tester program.  He continues to work hard today to remain on "the cutting edge" of computer technology! He is also a voracious reader, and subscribes to every technical journal he can find!  Dr. Bill is also a strong advocate of Open Source computing solutions such as Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP (LAMP.)  He has completely converted the Dr. Bill Bailey.NET system and network infrastructure to Open Source solutions!  His server distro of choice is CentOS Linux, and his Linux personal desktop of choice is Freespire!

Dr. Bailey developed the concepts for the initial intranet and Internet work done at Ciba-Geigy's (later Novartis') Greensboro location, and taught courses there on Web-based technologies.  He also designed and helped build their e-mail network for thirteen North American divisions.  He was a team member on teams that pioneered work in electronic messaging, groupware, NT domain standardization and document management for Novartis.  He was named the first Internet and Electronic Messaging Consultant by Ciba-Geigy before their merger with Sandoz created Novartis.

He spent two years as System Manager of the Academic and Administrative Computer Centers at N.C. A&T State University in the late 1980's, where he introduced computer office automation to the Chancellor's management team and staff. He also initiated the University's academic link to the Internet through the BITNET computer network, as well as developing the Administrative Computing Center's Disaster Recovery Plan.

Dr. Bill founded, and served for many years, as the Chairman of the Piedmont Triad New Technology Users Group, where he shared his knowledge of Windows, Linux and Open Source solutions with the Piedmont Triad area.  He continued to serve as its Chairman until the group was disbanded in early 2001.

Now, though his Blog and Podcast, "Dr. Bill - The Computer Curmudgeon" he shares his experience, humor, and computer technology hints and tips, through the new media revolution that is occurring on the Internet!  If you haven't already looked at this site, and listened to the Podcasts there, you are missing a treat!  He also does a podcast on Natural Health issues at his Traditional Naturopath website. Also check out his IPTV video show at the Dr. Bill.TV website.

Dr. Bailey brings his unique background and experience in Internet and intranet technologies, TCP/IP, Computing Infrastructure, Systems, Electronic Messaging and Groupware technologies to the Web.  He is very comfortable designing streaming audio and video systems for the Web, as well as developing "cutting edge" Web site search and e-commerce technologies.   He combines his background in art, photography, publishing and computing to help develop an innovative, dynamic, multi-media Web presence!
